Gamble Rogers State Park Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach is truly one of the hardest camping parks to get into every single year. You have to be online the very day they update the camping sites for 11 months out if you ever want to stay on the beach side of the camping area. However, we got lucky and were able to get in on the new riverside camping area of the park. We rode over to the beachside are during our stay. You have to have a code to get in but a friendly volunteer allowed us to ride through, take some pictures and ask a couple of questions. We really liked the riverside of the park as it was brand new with a large bathhouse facility and new laundry room. The sites were nice and spaced out with most having gravel driveways with a firepit, picnic table, barbecue grill and T-Pole with lantern hooks. There is electric and water on site but you have to use the dump station. I cannot say enough about the bathhouse facilities. They had massaging shower heads, lots of hot water, great pressure, fans along the wall to cut down on the heat and moisture and I believe they even have little heaters for the winter months. You can’t see the water traffic as there is a natural tree barrier in the way. I guess that would be great to help keep the boaters from spying on the campers. There are also smaller sites in the center outside ring of the campground where you can pitch a tent or have one of those small pop-up campers. What we didn’t like was that there is no shade on either side. I can see it on the beach side as you on a very small strip of land with you in between the big Atlantic Ocean and a very busy highway. The spots are extremely close together with no privacy on any of the sites. I imagine the hardest thing for the volunteers is trying to keep all the sand down out of the bathrooms and shower areas. Along with the camping area on the riverside of A1A is the boat ramp, picnic tables, canoe and kayak rentals, etc. You can sit and watch the Intercoastal waterway traffic while you fish along the banks. The banks or just walk around the trails. There are not the many by the way. Most people just sit outside and enjoy the ocean breezes or head to the ocean for a nice swim. Being as the park is located right on scenic highway A1A you can go south out of the park and hit Ormond Beach then Daytona Beach just past that or you can head north to Flagler Beach proper and a little further up is Palm Coast, Marineland and then St. Augustine. You don’t have to drive too far to find some really nice restaurants, bars, or other attractions to keep you busy. Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach 3100 S.
