Faver Dykes State Park Faver Dykes is a little known out-of-the-way state park situated along Pellicer Creek. The park is fairly small in comparison to other parks but very nice to spend some time at. The roads are all sand and coquina rock in places. They are narrow and in the summer months can become quite sandy. There is a large Day-Use area with lots of picnic tables, bathroom, covered pavilions, and a dock for fishing. There is no swimming in the park due to aggressive aquatic water life such as alligators. The water is brackish and there is a combination of both fresh and saltwater fish in the area. You will need lots of mosquito repellent most of the year but the late fall and winter months are pretty great. The park has a separate boat launch area with a small dock, canoe and kayak rentals and a bathroom. Both the Day Use Area and the boat launch area is a great place to watch the sunset. The camping area is located all the way in the back of the park. All the sites are coquina rock and dirt with water and electric. The dump station is located at the bathhouse. Even though the bathhouse is older and could use some repairs and renewal here and there it does have lots of hot water. The camp host has access to a washer and dryer but not the campers. There is a large outdoor theater area with trails leading to the creek and the areas around the camping and Day Use Area. The ranger station for check-in is only opened a few hours each day. Most people pay online and just go to their site when they arrive. The ranger will come to your site and give you a receive and the gate combination. The grandkids came for a visit while we were there because we were so close to home. The park area for kids is a great adventure with swings, slides, monkey bars, lots of trees for shade and room to run around with a small dock into the water to fish. There are no swimming areas in the park which is a bummer but who wants to swim with alligators anyway!?! The entire park is mostly pine trees which make a lovely sound when the wind blows through them. The waterway along the picnic area faces kind of westerly so we enjoyed some pretty nice sunsets. While we were there we saw deer, a wild pig, turtles, lots of different birds and a guy caught a large catfish. Whatever you need in the way of supplies, food and the like can best be gotten in St. Augustine. With its close proximity to I-95, you are not far from Daytona and Jacksonville as well. We have gone to this park for a lot of years and it has just been in the last 5 years that it is being found by other than us locals. It is a quiet park with some wildlife and some great fishing. We didn’t catch anything but while we were there we saw a couple of people who did. It is just nice to sit in a lounge chair on the little dock and watch the water float by.
