Ft Clinch State Park Ft. Clinch State Park is located on the main road called Atlantic Avenue in Fernandina Beach, Florida. It is in the Northeast Florida area in Nassau County. The park has fishing, biking, camping, swimming, hiking, bike riding, and a historical fort to visit. It is also home to the most mosquitoes you can find in one place in almost all Northeast Florida. It is not somewhere you want to stay at night during the summer months unless you have a big can of YardGuard, Benadryl, citronella candles and bug repellent. It is beautiful there with huge oak trees, sand dunes and nice camping facilities and some of the best fishing available on the Cumberland Sound area. If you stay in the beachside camping area spots 2-20 you will see large boats coming into the Fernandina Port for offloading as well as sailboats, and some pleasure crafts. There is a sheltered cove on the Atlantic Beach side for swimming in the tide pools created by the rocks separating the sound from the ocean. There is also a very long pier going out that you can walk along or fish from. There is beach boardwalk a little south of this but it is being renovated now. While we were there almost all the camping sites were filled except for the tent sites on the beach side. There were also a lot of people enjoying the day riding up and down the roads on bicycles. At the Fort, you can even rent a bike. After paying the admission fee into the park we didn’t feel like paying an extra $2.00 per person to get in the Fort. After the picnic incident, we didn’t really want to hang around that area anyway without some protection. Always remember to check with the office Ft. Clinch State Park website for updates on pests, insects, and renovations that are going on. The day we visited was the height of Summer and the mosquitoes were horrendous. Ft.
